I was blown away by Kidz 'n Power. There is nothing that is not covered, and it's a bargain at the price, as not only do you get 3 hours 40 minutes of instruction, but includes a child ID kit, ID card, and 2 bonus gifts. Production values are excellent.

The DVD is appropriate for all ages, from birth to teen years.

Originally available on VHS tape, the 3 Kidz 'n Power tapes are remastered onto one DVD. You can jump right to one of the 21 chapters between the first 2 tapes, which are entitled "Becoming Aware" and "Taking Action," and the bonus "Internet Safety" tape.

Tape 1, "Becoming Aware," covers: Child ID kit and ID card, 4 rules of personal safety, abduction, tips on discussing difficult subjects with children, stranger danger, protecting your little ones and teens, dealing with fear, how predators lure children,

Tape 2, "Taking Action," covers: physical distraction and escape techniques, self-defense training, conflict avoidance, getting away, home alone, Megan's Law, Amber Alert, reporting a missing child, tools and resources,

Tape 3, "Internet Safety," covers: signs of dangerous Internet activity, predators' tricks and techniques, web filters and products, chat room and instant messaging safety, what child is vulnerable.

The producers advise the parents watching the videos before watching them with their children. Good advice, as you want to be prepared to discuss anything they might ask. And there's a lot of information to process and discuss with your spouse before discussing with your children.

What they could have improved upon? One technique that should have been included is the "drop and grab" physical technique. When a child senses he cannot prevent an abduction, he can simply drop to the ground and grab an object - railing, pole, bicycle, chair, whatever, using a specific grip that makes it difficult for somebody else to release. The abductor will have difficulty picking the child up and makes the process longer. The abductor will not want to stick around and leave.

I also don't advocate yelling "fire" when in trouble, because the cries will be ignored if passers by don't see an actual fire. Better are "He's not my dad," "She's not my mom," "Stranger, stranger," and "He's attacking me!"

These are small points compared to the overall value, quality, and quantity of information given.

Summary
