TRAPPING WEAPONS
SUMMARY: Several trapping weapons are available at close range to temporarily stun your assailant to give you time to escape.
Trapping weapons are brutal. By definition, trapping is temporarily immobilizing an assailant's move/weapon for you to counterattack.
Here are eight effective trapping techniques that are easy to learn. Use them and then immediately escape.
Eye Jab
The objective is to jab your fingers toward the eyes of the opponent. With fingers together, hand and wrist loose, flick the hand at angle (not straight on) quickly to the eye as you step in.
Practice by yourself in front of mirror, and with a partner with focus pad. Practice both left and right side forward. When practicing with a partner with a focus pad, you can draw eyes on them, and have the partner move around as you practice.
Oblique Kick
Use the oblique kick if the opponent has one side toward you, exposing a leg, and is not squared off. Step with rear foot into the assailant's knee cap or below the knee with your instep.
Scoop Kick
Use the scoop kick if the assailant is squared off facing you, and you can see the groin. Kick up into groin, then scoop, or pull back, your foot with the foot grazing the groin.
Ear Slap
Slapping the ears with cupped hands will cause momentary disorientation and possible rupturing of the eardrums. Cup your hands, with fingers together, and keep the wrist loose. Lead with your wrist toward the ear, and just before contact whip the fingers to contact the assailant's ears, with the entire hand (base/wrist and fingers) slapping at the same time. Use your weight behind it, by slightly rotating your upper body with the strike.
This trapping technique can also be used to slap the groin. In this variation, you can also grab and squeeze the groin tightly, and twist.
Knee Kick
Use your knee to strike the groin or thigh. Your femur is horizontal to ground. The knee moves straight forward, not up, and you rotate your hip forward for maximum extension and power.
Head Butt
Use the top of your head to strike the opponent’s face. Keep your chin to your chest. Grab the back of opponent’s head and forcefully pull it into your head while you move yours into his.
Elbow
Use just the tip of the elbow, about the size of quarter. Graze across the opponent's face quickly with your weight behind it by rotating your torso with the strike. You can also vary the angles – up, across, diagonal. The elbow strike is more lethal than a punch at trapping range.
Bite
Bite as a last resort, due to risk of infectious diseases. Use this technique when the attacker has you in head lock, or if you're at bottom of several people and need to get out.
